HIV/AIDS SERVICES
Persad began providing counseling services to HIV/AIDS infected
individuals and their loves ones in 1982 shortly after the Center
for Disease Control (CDC) first defined Acquired Immune Deficiency
Syndrome (AIDS) and has continued to battle the disease with creative
and life-affirming counseling responses.
Persad provides professional counseling services to HIV+ and AIDS
affected individuals and their families. Persad responds to the
crisis of the newly diagnosed individual with information about
the disease, hope regarding the availability of treatment and the
likelihood of survival, strategies for telling loved ones, counseling
to assist in the reduction/elimination of risk behavior and in
addressing
the emotional needs of the diagnosed client and their family, as
well as group counseling to provide support and the awareness that
they are not
alone.
Persad also responds to the needs of the long-term survivor of
HIV disease. With advances in medication, clients are likely
to live
with HIV as a chronic illness. Like any chronic illness, there
are issues to be addressed including medication compliance
and side
effects, quality of life, energy and availability for relationships
with others, financial ramifications, employability issues,
etc. Persad’s experience
in dealing with HIV disease provides clients with informed
counsel for their
concerns.
