Same – sex couples have the same rate of domestic violence and abuse as their heterosexual counterparts. The issues of relationship conflict and violence in same sex couples are, however, different, and require specialized care. Persad Center has developed a special program to help couples who are experiencing conflict or violence in their relationships.

Intimate Partner Abuse
The Persad Intimate Partner Abuse program helps individuals to examine the negative patterns in their relationships, how to spot the triggers to abuse, and teaches skills to stop the cycles of abuse. Participants in the program are taught to recognize and communicate their thoughts and feelings more effectively. Participants examine the role that their sexual orientation, homophobia and heterosexism play in displays of anger and frustration toward others. Participants also are challenged to look at their beliefs about relationships and to determine ways that their needs are and are not being met in their partnership.
