Mental Health Services
Persad Center is the nation’s second oldest licensed mental health counseling center specifically created to meet the needs of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community (LGBT). Founded in 1972, Persad has more than 30 years experience in serving the LGBT community.

Persad began its Mental Health Service from the repeated requests of the LGBT community, seeking to receive counseling from someone who was not trying to change then or who did not label them as crazy because they were gay.

Persad provides counseling to individuals who are in a process of sorting out their sexual identity. Some people come to Persad who are questioning whether they are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender and counseling helps them to sort out who they really are.

Others who have already discovered that they are LGBT come to persad because they want to receive counseling from someone who does not judge them. These people bring a wide range of life issues to discuss in counseling that include, but are not limited to, couples conflicts, stress, depression, anxiety, grief and fear. Staff at Persad are experts in the LGBT community and in counseling.

Counseling is confidential at Persad. No one is turned away because they do not have enough money to pay for counseling services. Persad accepts most types of insurance.

 Couples counseling
