Ryan J. Arey, LCSW (He/Him)
Therapist
Ryan, a queer and trans therapist, joined Persad in 2025. A licensed clinical social worker since 2012, he has provided therapeutic services to clients with a wide range of needs across diverse settings. Ryan is deeply committed to trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and healing-centered care, with an emphasis on LGBTQIA+ affirming therapy.

He brings extensive experience working with individuals navigating depression, anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, and life transitions. Ryan has a strong background in supporting trans and nonbinary youth and adults, as well as addressing issues related to interpersonal and domestic violence. As an adoption-competent therapist, he is passionate about working with adoptees, adoptive families, and birth parents.
Ryan earned both his Master of Social Work and Bachelor of Social Work degrees from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond, Virginia. Over the course of his career, he has served in various roles beyond therapist, including clinical supervisor, adjunct professor at VCU’s School of Social Work, and consultant on the development of trauma-informed and adoption-competent trainings. He has also provided training and technical assistance for the Office of Refugee Resettlement’s Unaccompanied Children’s Program.

As a recent transplant to Pittsburgh, Ryan enjoys exploring the city and surrounding areas, tending to his garden, and meeting new dogs to befriend.
